$2.60 KOPI-FLAVOURED KAI JIE

The funniest thing that ever happened to me.

For the past 4CNY, I have always been helping out at Alex's ba-kwa shop. This year without fail, I reported for work punctually. Especially since it was the last year of operations, his parents have since sold the shop and retired.

It's a ba-kwa cum tidbits cum kopi-powder neighbbourhood shop. My job scope covers from weighing giam sng tee to grinding coffee powder to weighing and packaging ba-kwa for the customers. And this year, while dealing with the kopi-powder, sth disastrous happened. ( For your information, I absolutely hate grinding the coffee powder cos the machine is cranky and noisy and bits of powder will stain you indefinitely. )

Anyway, I still remember what exactly happened when the fateful incident occurred. This lady asked for 200g of the $1.30/100g coffee beans to be grinded. I did everything accordingly. Pouring the coffee powder into a plastic bag, I proceeded to tie the bag of freshly grinded kopi powder. Showing off the skills of a fairly experienced "tie-er" I was proudly swivelling the bag of kopi-powder in the air thinking that I did quite a nice job in achieving a full and tightly secured bag of coffee powder when all of a sudden, THE ENTIRE BAG OF COFFEE POWDER EXPLODED!!! Yep! It did, covering ME and the floor and the containers with kopi powder! The lady was stunned. So was I. Haahaa. I shouted for help from kai wei immediately and everybody around me including myself burst into laughter! Aunty was saying that in her 17yrs of running the business, she and uncle have never ever come acrossed an exploding bag of kopi powder before. The only other time sth like that happened was a few days back when alex's one exploded too but his was facing out when it exploded so he was really clean of it.

Well, that incident plagued me for a few days and they cldn stop bringing it up and having a good laugh over it. But me being highly traumatised by it still had a job to do so I started sealing all the pkts of coffee powder instead of being gei kiang again.

Well, that incident definitely gave the shop's last few days a story to go down in history with...
